Kids' Dresser Transformation (In Progress)
I have been enjoying just sharing projects when they are finished but life has been a little busy lately with 2 birthday kids this week and church volunteering. (Did anyone else go to the Jeremy & Adrienne Camp concert?!?) I just haven’t had the time but maybe energy to go out and put the finishing touches on this sweet white dresser.
Jeremy & Adrienne Camp Concert
It was stories and songs… a different vibe than other concerts I’ve been to!
I picked it up off the marketplace and kind of regretted it when I saw it but the mom was in a panic moving with a toddler and I think she just needed things gone so I went ahead and took this and another dresser that will also be more work than it’s worth- that might be the next one to get started.
Pictures look better than real life
It appeared like real wood and in better condition but not everything is as it looks to be… It is MDF, the drawer fronts are a bit beat up, the back had a big hole, and some of the drawers didn’t slide smoothly.
I proceeded anyway- Scrubbed with soapy water, then denatured alcohol.
I glued and clamped a few of the drawers that needed a bit of help. Sanded the extra glue off and filled in with some putty. It helped some but they are by no means perfect. But it will remain an inexpensive kids dresser.
I love it when its so nice I can work out in the Butcher Shop with the overhead door open!
Just a quick coat of primer
White Primer to give an even covering- its amazing the difference that makes in the brightness!
2 coats of White Blossom- I went with White Blossom Rust oleum Satin because I wanted it to just be a clean bright piece.
Scrubbed the handles and painted them a hammered gold color.
2 coats of Satin Poly to give a nice and sturdy finish
And that is as far as it has gotten for the last couple of weeks.
To finish I will add a wallpaper inside the drawers, reinstall the hardware, put a new backing on, glides reinstalled in the drawers and feet protectors.
I’m looking forward to adding wallpaper lining to the drawers because I think it looks nice, and it just looks more finished as a refinished item. The inside of these drawers are in decent shape but it could also protect clothing also.
We have the grandparents over for cake and ice cream this weekend. After that I should get back to having a bit of time going to the butcher shop for some quiet time…
